Seaways' Ships in Scale Magazine - First Ten Years CD

LowBridge developed an entire magazine archival two-CD set for Seaways Publishing, Inc. from scratch. This was the first such project for both LowBridge and Seaways. The concept was to offer an electronic archive of the first ten years of publication of Seaways Ships in Scale magazine in a format readable by both PC and Macintosh computers. In addition to the magazine content, Seaways had a non-searchable electronic version of their cumulative index that Seaways wanted incorporated into the CD set.

Work Description:

For this project, LowBridge:

• developed conceptual design – format, “look and feel”, image resolution, navigation tools, etc.

• experimented with various means of presenting the content, including Adobe Acrobat, HTML and a custom interface before deciding on an HTML-based solution.

• developed a customized JavaScript search engine for implementing the searchable magazine article index. Search results are linked to the referenced magazine articles.

• developed page templates with generic links & navigation features.

• scanned magazine page images.

• integrated page templates and scanned page images.

• performed quality assurance prior to production.

• produced CD-R premasters for use by the CD production facility to produce the stamped production CD’s.

• provide end user technical support on an ongoing basis via email.

Project Status:

The first two printings of the Seaways’ Ships in Scale Magazine First 10 Years CD have sold out. Seaways continues to market this CD set with LowBridge providing “CD-on-demand” production and order fulfillment services to Seaways by which LowBridge produces and ships CD-R versions of the CD set as orders are received.
